Privacy policy
Last updated 30 October 2026. The NotchOne app has no accounts, no analytics and no third-party code. We don't collect, store or sell any personal data.
What leaves your Mac
| What | Sent to | When |
|---|---|---|
| Your area, rounded to about 1 km (or the city you typed) | Open-Meteo, a free weather service | When the notch opens, at most every 30 minutes, while the weather is on |
| A request for the cover image of the playing song | Spotify's image server | While Spotify plays |
| A request for the latest release (no identifiers) | NotchOne's website | At most once a day; can be turned off in Settings → About |
These services see your IP address, as any website does. Their own privacy policies apply to what they receive.
What stays on your Mac
- Clipboard history is kept in memory and cleared when NotchOne quits. Copies marked private and copies from known password managers are skipped.
- The Shelf keeps links to your files, not copies.
- Translation runs on your Mac with Apple's on-device models.
- Mirror shows a live camera preview. Nothing is recorded or saved.
- Notes are a plain text file in NotchOne's folder in Application Support.
- System and device stats (CPU, memory, network, device batteries) are read from macOS only while they're on screen, and not kept.
- Notifications, if you turn them on, are read from macOS's banners, shown in the notch for a few seconds, kept in memory for the Notifications tab until NotchOne quits, and never written to disk or sent anywhere.
- Settings are stored in your user's preferences.
Permissions
Each one is optional and asked only when you turn on the feature that needs it.
- Location for the weather where you are. You can type a city instead.
- Accessibility for translating the selected text, the volume and brightness keys, showing notifications in the notch, and controlling players other than Music and Spotify.
- Automation to read and control Music and Spotify.
- Files and Folders (Desktop and Downloads) to show a new screenshot or download in the notch for a few seconds. NotchOne only looks at new files and never uploads them. Both can be turned off.
- Camera for the Mirror tab.
- Bluetooth for connect and disconnect alerts.
- Focus status for the moon shown while a Focus is on.
This website
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which handles your IP address to deliver it. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and from which countries; it uses no cookies and doesn't identify you. We also count downloads and update checks as daily totals. We don't store IP addresses or anything else that identifies a person or a Mac.
Donations
If you support NotchOne, that happens on GitHub Sponsors and GitHub's privacy policy applies.
Updates
When it finds a new version, NotchOne downloads it over HTTPS and installs it only if Apple's code signing confirms it was signed with our Developer ID.
